Why are no network interfaces found when booting Linux LPAR?

After booting a PowerLinux LPAR from Storix boot media, I am unable to configure the network because no network devices are found.

ANSWER

LPARs created from VIO servers running on Power6 have the ability to use Integrated Virtual Ethernet (IVE) for their Ethernet devices. However, these devices will not display in SMS and are not configured and made available during Storix device configuration.

In order to support networking when booting the LPAR from Storix boot media, you should configure the LPAR to use a shared or physical Ethernet device.

Once the system reboots following a system recovery, you may reconfigure the LPAR to use the IVE network adapter.
