Hardware Migration

Hardware Migration

When it comes time to replace your AIX, Linux, or Solaris system, whether by choice or necessity, are you able to restore your backup onto the new hardware from bare-metal? Would you like to move a physical machine to a virtual environment (i.e. AIX LPAR, VMware guest, LDOM) to take advantage of server consolidation?

Most bare-metal recovery (BMR) solutions provide only a “disk image” backup. This inflexible type of backup may only be restored onto the same type system, adapters, disk sizes and locations. This becomes problematic when your intent is to upgrade your hardware, if a replacement machine differs from the original, or if you want to migrate from a physical machine to a virtual machine (or vice versa).

SBAdmin provides Adaptable System Recovery (ASR), which provides the unique ability to record your AIX, Linux, or Solaris system configuration in the backup, compare that with your newly detected hardware configuration, and adapt to any change. This includes migrating to and from virtual environments.
