The SBAdmin Graphical User Interface (GUI) provides a very user-friendly means of configuring, managing and performing all of your backups. The interface provides all the standard features a system administrator would expect, while also providing advanced features like backup scheduling, backup to disks or tape, tape striping, replicating disk backups to tape, generation of backup and tape labels, performance statistics and history reporting.
SBA is not a tape library management product. The process of randomly backing up and cataloging thousands of files is a complicated and expensive feature that is needed only in extremely large installations. SBA incorporates the features that system administrators require, including some advanced features like tape labels and support for random tape libraries and sequential autoloaders, without imposing the high cost of features they don't need.
Centralized Backup Management
An Administrator system is the system from which all backups are managed. In a Workstation or Desktop environment, this is the only system used. In a Network Administrator environment, the Administrator system will be used to configure and manage all client and server systems, as well as configure and manage all backup jobs. Storage Media
SBAdmin offers support for backup to local or remote disk, including SAN devices (Disk-to-Disk Backups), as well as local and remote tape drives, tape libraries and sequential autoloaders. Staging backups allows you to complete backups quickly and offload them to slower, or remote, media (disk or tape - i.e. D2D2T) at a more convenient time without affecting users.
Live Data Backups
SBAdmin includes the ability to perform backups of active data using LVM Snapshots on Linux systems or Split-Mirror Backups on AIX systems. This provides the ability to backup data at a point-in-time while allowing users to continue to modify the online data.
Additional Features
Among other features, SBAdmin provides advanced backup management such as Tape Labels, Backup Retention Policies and Backup Status Notifications.
