Storix System Backup Administrator (SBAdmin) is the only system backup and recovery software supporting both AIX and Linux on the IBM System p (formerly RS/6000 and pSeries), IBM System i (iSeries), and Linux on the IBM System x (xSeries).

No other backup utility, not even AIX mksysb or Tivoli Sysback has all the features and flexibility of SBAdmin. Storix first introduced SBAdmin for AIX in 1999, providing the most reliable system recovery, cloning and hardware migration for IBM RS/6000 systems available. Support for all Linux on Power distributions was added in 2004.

SBAdmin continues to fully support systems running AIX 5L (5.1, 5.2 and 5.3), AIX 6, and virtually all Linux distributions, including Redhat, Fedora, SuSE, Debian, Ubuntu, Mandriva (formerly Mandrake). SBAdmin supports all IBM System i and System p (pSeries/RS6000), RSPC and CHRP-based systems and JS/20 Blade servers - even those that IBM no longer supports. Plus, SBAdmin is supported on the RISC processor-based System i's.

SBAdmin is the leader in Adaptable System Recovery (ASR). This allows for restoration of the entire system (operating system and user data) onto same or different system or disk configurations (referred to as hardware migration or cloning).

SBAdmin understands your AIX and Linux system and hardware, records the configuration with each system backup. This information can then be used to rebuild the system from the ground up. By allowing the user to reconfigure the system during installation, the system may be restored to completely different hardware - different disks, LPARs, even different system types (RSPC to CHRP, etc).

Unlike a restore from mysysb, SBAdmin bootable backup tapes for AIX can also include data volume groups other than ROOTVG. Linux system backups will also support disk partitions, software RAID devices, Logical Volume Manager (LVM), and many different filesystem types.

By changing the configuration when reinstalling from a system backup to install onto different hardware install onto different hardware or migrate to a different software storage configuration, you're able to increase flexibility, performance and availability.

Not only can the above actions be performed when restoring a system from scratch, but you can also selectively rebuild and/or restore files, directories or AIX volume groups from any System, Volume Group or Logical Volume backup performed with SBAdmin.
