SBAdmin supports software tape labels, allowing you to apply any set of alphabetic or numeric digits to a tape for later identification. This label may be descriptive, such as "weekly_backup_2" or may match the barcode label applied to the tape.
This label is retained across all SBAdmin backups and is included in the Backup Label (or set of backup tapes). You can then look up the current contents of the tape using its tape label. Also, if your stack of tapes are removed from the library and dropped on the floor, the backup label will tell you the volume number of each tape in the set.
