Disasters can range from a hurricane to a water leak. But, where your system is involved, the consequences are the same - you've lost it all! You need it all back, and you need it fast!
SBAdmin does far more than backup your data - it backs up your system. And it does so in such a way that you can restore that system back to the same, similar, and even completely different hardware! This process is called Adaptable System Recovery (ASR). Storix SBAdmin backups include a map of your system, storage, and filesystem in addition to the operating system, configuration, and user data.
SBAdmin uses the information to rebuild your system from the ground up, allowing you to change that configuration to match your new hardware, then data is restored onto the newly configured system.
A system can be restored from any SBAdmin Full System Backup, local or remote. Systems can be restored from a local "spare" disk containing a system backup, local tape, or even remote disk or tape. For IBM pSeries Systems running either AIX or Linux, you can boot and reinstall from a locally-attached tape. For these and other systems, you can boot from a CDROM, local disk (configured for system recovery) or from a network boot server.
The process begins with booting to the SBAdmin System Installation and Maintenance Menu. From here, you simply select your install media (and install server if any), and select to reinstall the system. If there are any differences in hardware that require the system to be restored differently, you will be informed so and instructed to make changes to the system configuration.
If there are no further changes to the system configuration, simply select to install. The process will complete with no further user intervention. Next, just login and go back to work! Check out more samples of the System Installation and Maintenance Menus.
