With the SBAdmin Backup Data Encryption Feature, all Linux or AIX backups, from single directories to full system backups, can be protected from preying eyes.
With encrypted backups, no one (not even Storix) can read your backup data without knowing your encryption key! This protects against the loss of secure information due to unauthorized access to your Linux and AIX servers, stolen or lost backup tapes! Many industry regulations require an unencrypted backup tape which is lost to be reported because of possible threat of identity theft!
Encryption Key Management
Most companies recognize the need for backup data encryption. But when asked why backup data encryption is not already in use, many respond that the difficulties in encryption key management (and fear of losing keys) is a major deterrent. Storix provides a simplified way of managing multiple encryption keys, restoring data to the original system without key entry, and will even transpose your favorite expression into a Hex key value to aid in remembering them without putting a post-it note on your display (which really doesn't do much for security).
Highest Encryption Standards
SBAdmin uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), which meets or exceeds NSA requirements.
Encryption "keys" may be configured as 128, 192 or 256-bit Hex values or as 16, 24 or 32-byte ASCII strings. The keys are securely stored on the client system for ease in backing up and restoring data, but must be entered manually by the user only when installing or reinstalling a system from a full system backup.
